MetaSync is an Applescript Studio application that allows the metadata for two iView MediaPro catalogs to be synchronized. This is often useful if you use one catalog to archive raw digital camera images and another to manage finished images.
Like most other image asset managers, iView MediaPro really has no ability to group images and their associated metadata in a useful way. By this, I mean that it won't let you add image information (such as the caption or location) for a raw file and have that information automatically associated with derivative image files, such as 16-bit TIFF images or smaller JPEG images destined for web output. Hopefully this will change in the future but, until then, we have to Create our own solutions to the problem.
I have two master catalogs that I use on a day-to-day basis. A raw catalog, that contains every raw image I‘ve ever shot. And a TIFF catalog, that contains a smaller subset of the keeper images that I’ve processed in Photoshop and decided I want to use. I use MetaSync to keep the metadata for the TIFF catalog in sync with my raw catalog. I never edit the IPTC data on my TIFF images - its always copied from the raw catalog with MetaSync.
However, this application relies on consistent naming between the two catalogs to work. The images in the destination catalog must have the same filename root as the images in the source catalog. For example, if you have a raw image called Foo.CR2 in your source catalog, the image in the destination catalog has to be something like Foo.tif or Foo.jpg - if thats true, then MetaSync will work for you.
